Lewis has hundreds of miles of unspoilt natural habitat and
thriving wildlife, it is regularly visited by wildlife guides. Lochs
has some of the most attractive small villages on Lewis including
Ranish, as well as some of the most productive fish farms. There
is zero light pollution making star gazing incredible, the Northern
Lights can be seen on occasion. Daylight hours very much increased
- it hardly gets dark at all in June! Walk across the beach at 10pm
and it seems like 2pm!
The main town on the Isle of Lewis is Stornoway. Ranish lies
around 8 miles to the south and has a very good Bus Service.
The town has a wide range of facilities including:

Callanish Standing Stones - One of the most significant
and important megalithic complexes in Europe. Very pleasant visitor
centre and tea-room.
Carloway Broch. A Broch is an iron age structure designed
to impress and defend, and were probably the homes of tribal leaders
and important members of the community. The Broch at Carloway
is one of the best preserved in the Hebrides and dates back over
2000 years.
Seatrek is based in one of the most beautiful locations
in Britain and provides spectacular boat trips, including wildlife
trips offering a chance to see birds, seals, dolphins and basking
sharks to special charter or family trips. Special packages include
sea kayaking & rock climbing/abseiling.
Fishing. Lewis & Harris have some of the finest salmon
and trout fishing anywhere in Scotland. The Hebrides have over
2000 freshwater lochs and a large number of rivers with access
to the sea. Beach fishing is also excellent.
Superb Beaches with the highest sea cliffs in Britain
and Europe's most consistent surf.
Bird Watching - over a million sea birds on St.Kilda alone
and the biggest colony of puffins in the UK.
Golden Eagles can be seen not too far off the beaten track, and
the famous Corncrake can still be heard in the evenings.
